Common Terms Used in Online Poker

In online poker you will find the same terms used in regular poker such as a straight, a flush, a 3 of a kind and 4 of a kind, a Royal flush, etc. You will also find other terms that may or may not be used at every land based table such as Pat Hand, describing a winning hand that was dealt which didn't have to switch out cards.

A Progressive Jackpot, same as the slot machines, online poker has these progressive jackpots where coins get collected into one common jackpot making it grow and grow until someone hits it.

Progressive Video Poker refers to the game of online poker which only pays out on a royal flush and nothing else. Trips or Trey refer to a three of a kind and Quads refers to a four of a kind.

A rainbow is 3 or 4 cards each of a different suit. To Wake up with a Hand means that the dealt hand has a high potential of being a winning hand.

There are also other terms that are used for slot machines which also apply to online poker games such as the Pay Cycle (now paying) and the Take Cycle (now collecting). These theories really aren't factual and the truth is that these machines usually base their payout ratios not on one day's worth of play but over an extended period of time.
